Jupiter group to open new hotel in Portimão in 2017

A four-star hotel by the long-established Jupiter Group is opening in Portimão in the second half of 2017. It will be located in the town’s riverside area, near the old São Francisco convent, reports Barlavento newspaper.
Under the name Jupiter Marina Hotel, the unit will boast 150 rooms, a rooftop bar, an outdoor pool, a spa and fitness centre, a restaurant and a 70-space underground car park.

The hotel is being built on the former grounds of an old canning factory (Facho) that was recently demolished – except for its chimney which will be incorporated into the project to honour the town’s industrial legacy.

Developers say it will be just a short walk from the river, the town centre, beaches and several other amenities.

Jupiter Marina Hotel will also be just a kilometre away from the group’s other hotel in Portimão, Jupiter Algarve, which opened in Praia da Rocha in 1968 at a time when the hotel industry had only just started to flourish in the region.

How much the project will cost has not been revealed, with the Jupiter Group saying only that it is “a significant investment” that will create around 40 jobs.

Hugo Raposo, the project’s architect, told Barlavento that there are also plans to create a garden between the hotel and the public sidewalk, as well as the intention to work with Portimão council to carry out much-needed renovations on the road commonly known as Estrada da Rocha.
