Jungle Book with a difference

news: Jungle Book with a difference

A PRESENTATION of Jungle Book was performed recently by students of the German School of Lisbon. But the school’s portrayal of the famous book was turned into a circus act, making it a spectacular show. Physical Education teacher, Peter Schmidt, taught the students to unicycle, juggle with fire and perform acrobatic moves. Riding a bicycle on a small stage is hard enough, but a unicycle is even harder! But the performers managed and were clearly enjoying themselves. The highlight came with performers juggling fire batons (the local bombeiros were on hand, of course!) and the audience’s standing ovation was most certainly deserved. The Resident spoke to Peter Schmidt, who told us: “This is physical education with a difference. For most of these acts, the students have to be fit. All will leave here with a fuller understanding of fitness and body control.” B.H.
