Prince visits Algarve

Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, spoke exclusively to the Algarve Resident during a visit to the Algarve in to watch the Duke of Edinburgh Cup charitable golf tournament, hosted by the Oceânico Victoria golf club, Vilamoura, between June 26 and 28.

He told the Algarve Resident:  “It is not the first time I have been in the Algarve. I have been once or twice before for the International Golf Youth Cup.”

This event is a charity with royal patronage that organises an annual international series of golf events entitled International Golf for Youth to raise funds that help young people worldwide by providing and giving support in health, education and welfare.

During his visit, Prince Edward also attended an awards ceremony at the International School São Lourenço in Almancil on June 27.

The event was attended by many new and old friends of the Algarve Resident, as well as readers of the group’s newly acquired magazines from Vista Ibérica Publicações Lda, including the Algarve GoodLife and Algarve Golf Guide. During the event, visitors had the chance to meet Paul McKay, author of the humorous tales A Year in Monchique, and Sheila Watts, author of Practical Portuguese and Progress with Portuguese, who signed copies of their books. Visitors were also offered a variety of top products and services by a hand-picked selection of companies offering special deals on the day.

Former Man U star relaxes in Algarve

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a discreet holiday at the Vale do Lobo resort in the Algarve prior to his move from the Manchester United football team to Real Madrid.

Having arrived on a private jet in Cascais, the star travelled south where he and his immediate family reportedly took up residence in two 1,500 euros-a-day Vale de Lobo villas.

Shielded from the general public and journalists by tight security, the 24-year-old divided his time between the private swimming pool and the golf course before reporting for his fitness test in the Spanish capital on June 30.
