The Algarve registered more passengers at Faro Airport, more overnight stays in hotels, more income and more rounds of golf this July in comparison with the same period last year.
Figures released by Turismo do Algarve were based on several sources, including ANA (the Portuguese Airport Authority), the Algarve Golf Association, INE – National Institute of Statistics and Tourism of Portugal.
Some 798,390 passengers were recorded passing through Faro Airport in July, up 3% on the same month in 2010. For the year to July, a total of 3.1 million passengers were registered at the airport, an increase of 9.4% year-on-year.
Hotels in the region registered 2.25 million overnight stays during the month, an increase of 9.5% over last year, with overnight stays in the Algarve representing 44.4% of the national numbers. According to the same report, hotels received 433,483 guests, an increase of 8.1%.
Hotels took approximately €100.7 million in total revenues (+11.2%), while the golf courses achieved a total of 65,644 rounds (+1.2%).
