As football fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2022/23 season next month, there is plenty of international and domestic club action on offer in the Algarve throughout July.
The region’s only top division team, Portimonense, lead the way with friendlies against Monaco on the 9th (Stadium of the Algarve), Birmingham City on the 12th (Ferreiras, Albufeira), Porto on the 14th (Portimão), Sporting Lisbon on the 20th (Lagos), Braga (23rd), Covilhã (27th) and Estrela de Amadora (30th) – all in Portimão – already confirmed and a possible fixture against Roma yet to be arranged.
Sporting Lisbon, who will be based at the Cascade Wellness Resort in Lagos, have further matches against Belgium’s Union Saint Gilloise in Parchal on the 13th followed by Villareal on the 14th, Roma on the 19th and Wolverhampton Wanderers on the 30th, all played at the Stadium of the Algarve.
Meanwhile, Benfica take on Nice (15th) and Fulham (17th) at the same venue whilst Braga face Middlesbrough (15th) and Nice (20th).
Before those dates, Glasgow Rangers meet Sunderland on the 9th in Albufeira and the month ends with Farense’s official presentation against Wolves at their São Luis stadium on the 31st.
Porto’s additional fixtures, other than that with Portimonense, in the Algarve are still to be announced.
Please consult local press for any change in venues, dates and actual kick-off times closer to the matches currently scheduled.
