Company opens first store in Algarve

Portuguese furniture company JOM has opened its first Algarve store in Portimão.

Representing a €4.5 million investment, the new 5,000sqm store was inaugurated on Wednesday, May 11 and was built from scratch on a patch of land on Rua da Abicada at the entrance of town.

The store also features a 1,000sqm warehouse, an outdoor car park with 48 spaces and a covered car park with 119 spaces.

The company says that the store will create 18 direct and 40 indirect jobs.

“The message that we want to pass onto the people of Portimão and the entire Algarve is that JOM Portimão will have solutions to meet all home-related needs, featuring a team of excellence who will accompany you and provide a unique and complete experience with each visit,” the company said in a statement.

JOM was launched over 25 years ago by Guimarães businessman Joaquim de Oliveira Mendes (whose initials inspired the company’s name). The company has now 24 stores in Portugal.

With the opening of its Portimão store, the company is hoping to surpass the €45 million in revenue that it registered in 2019 before the pandemic, it told ECO newspaper.
