Joe McElderry is the winner of this year’s The X Factor, the popular UK reality TV show which searches for new musical talent, and the winner’s song is already set to be a Christmas number one.
During the show, Joe sang a duet with pop star George Michael and performed the winner’s song, The Climb, a cover of a song originally performed by American pop star Miley Cyrus.
The 18-year-old from Newcastle beat fellow contestant Olly Murs by taking almost two thirds of the 10 million public votes.
The X Factor winner could barely speak when he was handed a copy of the CD of the winner’s song, which was instantly available to download after the show.
Paul McCartney made a surprise appearance and performed his hit Live and Let Die and was then joined on stage by the two finalists for a rendition of The Beatles hit Drive my Car.
