Joe Berardo – once known as the 5th wealthiest man in Portugal – has been taken this afternoon for questioning by central criminal court judge Carlos Alexandre as another nine defendants have been cited in the convoluted case against him (click here). Say reports, the defendants include the former president of State Bank CGD Carlos Santos Ferreira, Berardo’s son Renato and various ‘collective entities’. Other members of the Berardo family ‘are also likely to face questioning’. For now it’s unclear whether Mr Berardo will be ‘freed’ this evening, or whether he will face another night in police custody.
