Statistics from Portuguese job centres have shown that there are 58,000 jobs available for workers across the country that the unemployed are “refusing” to take up.
As unemployment levels in Portugal reached almost 700,000 in 2009, job centres were only able to place 5.2 per cent of those registered into employment.
