YOUNG PEOPLE with higher education qualifications are most affected by unemployment, according to the National Statistics Institute.

In the last quarter of 2007, there were 66,000 graduates out of work, representing 9,000 more than in the same period in 2006.

The figures are the highest in 10 years although the opposition PSD party claimed they were the highest since the 1980s. The government has promised to create 150,000 new jobs before the end of its term in office.
