“Joana” trial set for October

THE MOTHER and uncle of eight year old Joana who disappeared last September from her home in the village of Figueira in Portimão, will stand trial for her murder on October 12.

Leonor Cipriano and João Cipriano are accused of killing the child and of concealing her body, which has still not been found.Official prosecution sources state that there are “practical indications of complicity in the child’s homicide” a crime punishable by between 12 and 25 years imprisonment.Nevertheless, Leonor Cipriano’s lawyer, João de Novais Pacheco has applied to the court for the case to be abandoned.
