Jewish Heritage Centre opens in Alentejan town of Monsaraz

A Jewish heritage centre has been opened in the historic and beautiful Alentejan town of Monsaraz, in memory of 80 former residents who were persecuted during the Portuguese inquisition nearly 500 years ago. The centre was opened by culture minister.

Luís Filipe de Castro Mendes in the company of Israeli ambassador Tzipora Rimon, while the nearby town of Elvas has allocated around €320,000 towards renovating its ancient synagogue.
