MUSICAL GROUPS from all over Portugal were in full voice in the foyer of Lisbon Câmara to close the festive season celebrations on Dia dos Reis, or Day of the Kings, on January 6. Also known as the Epiphany, it is a Christian celebration of the Biblical story of the Three Wise Men who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the baby Jesus. The day is widely celebrated in Spain, Portugal and by the Hispanic community in Latin America. Câmara President, Carmona Rodrigues, heard five musical groups sing traditional songs, known as ‘Janeiras’, and presented the participants with miniature Bolos-Rei (King’s cake).
