British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver will open his first ‘Jamie’s Italian’ restaurant in Portugal “this September or October”.
It will be located in Lisbon’s Príncipe Real neighbourhood, in a property that used to house a branch of Deutsche Bank and a store known as Lisbon Lovers, the project’s head of marketing Helena Farinha told RTP.
The neighbourhood is “the perfect place to host a cosmopolitan and international project (such as this),” she said.
Italian favourites of pizza and pasta will be on the menu, all cooked using “fresh and traditional Portuguese ingredients”.
Prices will vary between €12 and €27 per dish, and the décor will be similar to other ‘Jamie’s Italian’ restaurants, with “candles, dim lighting and a cocktail bar at the entrance”.
“He (Jamie) loves to work on the atmosphere (of his restaurants) and prefers warm, comforting materials,” said Farinha.
Jamie’s Italian was founded by the famous TV chef and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, in Oxford, 2008. Since then it has grown to more than 60 restaurants worldwide.
