A six-month study published by the University of the Algarve International Research Centre on Tuesday has revealed that the 2013 WRC Rally of Portugal was second only to the 2004 UEFA European Football Championships in terms of national economic impact.
The document itemises direct and indirect spending in excess of €100 million related to the event, with over half that amount coming in mainly from visiting fans during the three-day race itself and the remaining €47.5 million being generated via national and international media coverage promoting both Portugal and the Algarve as a tourist destination.
