THIS IS the time of year to pay for your vehicle tax, or Imposto Sobre Veículos. Instead of queuing up at your local Finanças office, this year you can purchase your vehicle tax stamp on the internet.
This is how you do it: visit the Finanças website (http://www.e-financas.gov.pt/de/jsp-dgci/main.jsp) to apply for a Senha de Identificação, which is the password that you will require to use the site. If you make your annual IRS declaration by internet, you will already have this password. If not, go to the Finanças website and underneath the space for your Nº Contribuinte at the top of the page, click on the tab marked Pedir Senha. Fill in the required boxes for fiscal number, e-mail address, and so on, and your Senha (password) will be e-mailed to you.
You will then be able to apply for your vehicle stamp online until July 14. After one week, you should be receiving your car stamp at your chosen address.
