It’s photo time in Portimão

Portimão’s popular annual photography competition Corrida Fotográfica de Portimão is being held this year on May 12.

More than 200 participants are expected to enter the competition which takes two formats: land and underwater photography.

On land and using a digital camera, competitors will be asked to photograph eight individual set themes, such as culture, heritage, nature and people, in the parishes of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.

Underwater photographers using open circuit equipment will be asked to explore the fauna and flora of the council’s river and maritime areas.

The 12th photography marathon runs from 9am to 8pm and is organised by the Câmara in conjunction with Portimão Museum.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st place – €400

2nd place – €250

3rd place – €150

In the digital format, a fourth place will also be awarded – €100.

Participants aged 12 to 18 have the chance to win the Prémio Jovem (Youth Prize) worth €500 towards a graphic design and digital imaging course at ETIC_Algarve.

A collective exhibition of the winning photographs will be held at Portimão Museum later this year.

The deadline for registration is May 10. To enter, visit Portimão Museum, located on the riverfront area, register through website www.cm-portimao.pt (in Portuguese) or request a registration form via corrida.
