This popular event is organised by Portimão Câmara in conjunction with a team from the Municipal Museum.

Now in its seventh year, 2007’s photographic “marathon” takes place on May 19. As per last year, the set off and finishing point for the contest will be outside the building of the council’s water and waste treatment company, known as EMARP.

Armed with a normal camera and a 35mm roll of 24 exposure film, the competitors will be asked to take three photos according to eight individual set themes, based on local subject matter. The topics will be supplied every four hours at a specially set up control point. The competition runs over 12 hours from 8am to 8pm.

Prizes will be awarded to the photographers taking the best rolls of film and are as follows: First place – 800 euros, second place – 600 euros, third place – 350 euros, fourth place – 250 euros and fifth place – 200 euros. In addition, 100 euros will be awarded to the photographer taking the best photo under each of the eight themes.

In addition to the adult competition, two prizes will be offered for budding photographers aged between 12 and 18 – 100 euros for the winner and a photography course for the runner-up. All winning photographs from the competition will be displayed in an exhibition to be held in July in the Zona Ribeirinha.
