news: It’s Carnival time in Loulé again!

It’s never too soon to announce plans for Carnival in Loulé, which this year takes place on February 9, 10 and 12 along the Avenida José da Costa Mealha.

Traditionally one of the most colourful events of the year in Portugal, Loulé Carnivalhas chosen for 2013 the theme of ‘Troika’ and will be entitled ‘Entroikados – A Grande Palhaçada’, loosely translated as ‘Entroikened – The Greatest Joke’, in an allusion to the economic difficulties the country is facing.

The parade will start each day at 3pm and will feature 17 floats, street entertainers and samba schools, with hundreds of people taking part to bring colour and joy to the heart of the city.

Thousands of people visit Loulé for its Carnival celebrations each year. In a press statement, Loulé Câmara said: “This event is extremely important for the local tourism sector, as it gives the economy a much-needed boost in the low season.”

Entry to watch the parade costs two euros.
