Guia is famous for its chicken
The small town of Guia, famous for its unique take on grilled chicken, is preparing to host the 34h edition of its Festa do Frango (Chicken Party).
The event will take place between Thursday and Sunday (August 3-6), allowing visitors to enjoy one of the most popular types of grilled chicken in Portugal.
Organisers say the party will also feature a lively line-up of popular music and entertainment.
“This is one of the main events in the parish and the municipality, rightly promoting one of the best-known dishes in the region and providing an excellent entertainment program for our visitors,” said Dinis Nascimento, president of the local parish council, which organises the event alongside local football club Guia Futebol Clube.
“Guia aims to establish itself more and more as a territory that combines much of the excellence found in the region, while preserving its traditions and distinctive characteristics, with gastronomy being one of them,” he added.
Meanwhile, João Cabrita, President of Guia Futebol Clube, has highlighted the “importance of this event for promoting the parish, but also for raising funds for the club, which organizes recreational and sports activities for the entire population.”
He added that “much of the work carried out for this event is based on the voluntary efforts of many leaders and parents connected to the club, which is also a way to strengthen relationships within and outside the institution.”
