It’s a new era for Kiss FM

Algarve independent radio station Kiss Fm is under new ownership, with previous owner Paul Buick handing over the reins to the Grupo Global Difusion.

Kiss FM first went on air in 1992, serving the multi-cultural communities of the Algarve, and will now be run by the group which also owns Lisbon based Record FM 107.7 and Madrid based Mais Brasil FM.

Director David Santos of Grupo Global Difusion told the Algarve Resident: “This January we concluded the acquisition of the stake held by Paul Buick in Kiss FM, a project that we considered to be of interest and one we would like to take further.”

He added: “It is therefore with great anticipation that we begin this new challenge, respecting what has already been established while looking to add something more to what already exists for the employees of the station, the listeners and the advertisers.”

Difficult decision

Paul Buick told the Algarve Resident: “It was a very, very difficult decision but I felt that it was time to move on. The current Kiss FM staff and programming will be retained until the group sort themselves out, after which I expect them to make some changes in line with their own programme policies.”

He added: “Since Kiss Fm first went on the air, I have been truly fortunate to have met so many people, friends, acquaintances and colleagues, some of which have made a big contribution to the success of the radio and promoting the region. I thank all who have helped the station achieve in the past 18 years.”

“I am very proud of what Kiss FM has achieved and I do not rule out the possibilities of returning to the radio industry later, perhaps in 2012.”
