The Parkalgar Honda team triumphed over adversity at the 10th round of the World Supersport Championship in Imola.

Top rider Sam Lowes missed most of the first qualifying session following a crash and subsequently managed only 8th position on the starting grid while mechanical problems relegated team mate Miguel Praia into 19th.

Both men recovered magnificently however, Lowes slicing through the field to take second, only two tenths of a second behind winner Fabien Foret as Praia finished in a season best equalling 8th position, two places in arrears of Parkalgar sister outfit Bogdanka’s James Ellison.

“I didn’t make the start I wanted and was well behind (11th) but got my head down and got into the battle,” Lowes said. “I am really happy to get second and can’t wait to get to Magny Cours next weekend.”

Those sentiments were echoed by team manager Simon Buckmaster who added: “Sam rode what I think was the best race of his career- he is building momentum as the season draws to its climax.”

Lowes is now 5th in the overall standings and has a realistic chance of a top three finish given equally inspired performances during the championship’s penultimate round in France this Sunday, and at the season-closing climax in the Algarve on October 16.

If you have not yet visited the Portimão Motor Park, that occasion in a fortnight’s time really will be worth lending your vocal support to the home team!
