Portuguese tennis No1 Rui Machado promptly lost to Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the first round of the Umag Challenger in Croatia following his title success in Poland.
This week the Algarvean formed one part of a three-pronged Portuguese bid for success in Trani, Italy – however Frederico Gil and Pedro Sousa both fell at the first hurdle leaving Machado to fly the colours against Chile’s Jorge Aguiliar alone last Wednesday
