THE AZORES have been voted the second best islands in the world for tourism by National Geographic Traveler magazine.
In the article called Places rated: best rated islands, a total of 111 islands and archipelagos were analysed by 522 experts in sustainable tourism. The destinations were marked in four categories called Best-rated, Doing Well, In the Balance and In Trouble. On a scale of one to 100, the Azores scored 84 points, falling short of the top spot which was awarded to the Faroe Islands, with a score of 87 points.
