This little kitten was found wedged into an engine in Austria. Fortunately, firefighters were able to release him, but many street cats die horrible deaths caught 'napping' in warm engines

“Is there a cat here?” Awareness campaign starts in Lisbon

“Check your engine… look under car… honk your horn”

An awareness campaign prompted by the extreme cold has begun today in Lisbon. The message is simple: “Cats shelter in warm engines during very cold weather”.

When drivers return to their cars – particularly if they have been parked overnight – there are three simple things they can/ should do to avoid tragedy.

Bang the bonnet, check under the vehicle and honk the horn a few times before turning the key in the ignition.

These simple steps will ensure that any street cat or cats that have snuggled down in a previously warm engine will get the message that it is time to move on.

Today’s action in Lisbon is promoted by the City’s Animal Ombudsman and parking authority EMEL.
