“Check your engine… look under car… honk your horn”
An awareness campaign prompted by the extreme cold has begun today in Lisbon. The message is simple: “Cats shelter in warm engines during very cold weather”.
When drivers return to their cars – particularly if they have been parked overnight – there are three simple things they can/ should do to avoid tragedy.
Bang the bonnet, check under the vehicle and honk the horn a few times before turning the key in the ignition.
These simple steps will ensure that any street cat or cats that have snuggled down in a previously warm engine will get the message that it is time to move on.
Today’s action in Lisbon is promoted by the City’s Animal Ombudsman and parking authority EMEL.
