A 30-year-old Irishman who was found dead yesterday (May 22) in an apartment in Albufeira was on a “stag trip” with friends and has been described as a “person that everybody loved”, according to Irish media.
Daryl Dargan, who had previously worked as a barman and was from the Lakeglen area of Portlaoise, Co Laois, was found dead by friends who were staying with him at an apartment in the Alto de Moinhos tourist complex.
It is understood the group had travelled to Portugal on Friday.
The Irish Independent says his brother has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to repatriate Dargan’s body.
A close friend, who did not want to be named, told the newspaper: “He had an infectious smile and he would do anything to help anybody at the drop of a hat.
“He’s going to be truly missed by everybody from the estate in which he lived and by the people of Portlaoise.
“We all hope we can get him home to his family through the GoFundMe page that we have set up and that we can give him the send-off that he truly deserves.”
The paper adds that Dargan, who was an “avid fan of Manchester United”, is survived by his two parents, his two brothers and sister.
An autopsy is due to take place in Faro.
PJ police are investigating but refuse to reveal further details.
Meantime, the Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to the family.
