Irish winner

A small boatbuilding company from Cobh Harbour in Cork, Ireland, has secured a 960,000 euro contract to build a new pilot launch for the port in Sines.

Ron Goddard, the Portuguese agent for Safehaven Marine, signed the contract this month but described the process as “a bureaucratic nightmare”.

Safehaven Marine submitted its bid to tender in February 2007 and, after an extensive adjudication process, the company was awarded the contract in January 2008.

The 16-metre launch will be able to reach speeds of 23 knots and will be delivered within the next 12 months.
