Irish tourist walks away from second-floor fall from Albufeira hotel with only minor injuries

A 19-year-old Irish tourist escaped serious injury this week after falling from the second floor of an Albufeira hotel and landing in a garden area below.

The six-metre plunge took place in the early hours of Tuesday (March 29).

National tabloid Correio da Manhã claims the young holidaymaker had just had a “heated discussion” with his girlfriend in their hotel room at Forte da Oura in Albufeira.

Authorities suspect he went out onto the hotel’s room balcony “in an altered state of mind”.

Emergency services were immediately called but the man sustained only minor injuries as the dirt and shrubs helped break what could have been a much more dangerous fall.

Despite his lucky break, the man was still taken to Faro Hospital.
