The St Patrick’s Society of the Algarve held its main autumn event, ‘Another Evening with an Irish Flavour’, at the Erin’s Isle Pub and Restaurant in Montechoro, Albufeira, recently.
Around 60 members and friends enjoyed a three-course dinner of delicious Irish fare, followed by live Irish music in the bar. Guests of honour were Gearóid McNamara, First Secretary to the Irish Embassy, and his wife Ailís, who had travelled down from Lisbon to support the event.
The highlight of the evening was the charity raffle and auction which, thanks to the generous donation of some stunning prizes, raised 900 euros for the Castelo de Sonhos charity in Silves. Special thanks were given to the sponsors – Erin’s Isle Pub and Restaurant, Salgados Golf Club, Porches Pottery, Restaurante O Barradas in Silves, Destino Restaurant and Bar in Lagos, La Provence Restaurant in Portimão and Dirty Nelly’s Bar in Carvoeiro.
The proceeds of this event and contributions raised from its recent monthly walks have enabled the society to donate 1,000 euros to Castelo de Sonhos. Chairman Jim Brownlow presented the cheque to Liliana Rodrigues, president of Castelo de Sonhos, who expressed her gratitude to the society for the very welcome donation.
Forthcoming St Patrick’s Society events include a walk on Saturday November 6 in the countryside between Silves and Monchique and a Quiz Night at Vale de Milho on December 4. The society is keen to welcome new members and you don’t have to be Irish to join! For further information, please contact Jenny on 282 359 633.
