Irish holidaymaker drowns in Albufeira

The body of a 29-year-old holidaymaker believed to be Irish was found at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Pine Sun Park resort in Praia da Falésia, Albufeira in the early hours of Monday morning.

The grim discovery was made by a friend at 5.04am, explains national tabloid Correio de Manhã, adding that the dead man had been drinking before he decided to go for a swim in the pool, “which was not open”.

By the time rescue services arrived at the scene, the dead man had been retrieved from the pool by a friend and security guard, writes the paper.

His body has been transported to the office of legal medicine for autopsy.

For now there are no further details on the man’s identity, nor who he was travelling with.
