Irish Ambassador attends St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve dinner dance

The St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve was founded in December 2002 to promote social activities for Irish people and their friends.

The following March they organised the first dinner dance to celebrate Ireland’s national day and have endeavoured to continue with this event each year.

After a break of three years due to covid, this year’s dinner dance was held in the Jupiter Hotel in Praia da Rocha on Friday, March 10.

The event was a great success, with 66 members and guests in attendance enjoying a buffet, followed by dancing to the lively music of the talented Vitor Talhadas.

The guest of honour was the Irish Ambassador, Ralph Victory.

In his address to the gathering, the Ambassador thanked the committee for all the hard work in organising the occasion and expressed the hope that the success of this year’s event would encourage even more people to join in the various Society activities throughout the coming year.

A raffle organised by Teresa Ferreira for spot prizes donated by various individuals and businesses raised over €500 for Associação Oncológica do Algarve and Associação Alzheimer Portugal.

New members are always welcome and, of course, you don’t have to be Irish to join!

A walk and lunch is planned for Saturday, April 1 and anyone interested in participating should contact Mary Vaughan, Secretary, at [email protected]
