Just hours before the latest deadline, the Iraqi embassy has finally ‘responded’ to Portugal’s request to lift diplomatic immunity protecting the ambassador’s twin sons from questioning over the horrific beating of 15-year-old Rúben Cavaco in Ponte de Sor, Alentejo, last August (click here).
According to SIC television, the government received the embassy’s answer earlier this evening, but is not revealing anything further.
A press conference will apparently be held tomorrow, at which point the country may finally know whether or not 18-year-olds Haider and Ridha Ali will be officially made ‘arguidos’ in an investigation that could lead to charges of attempted murder.
