Investment in Portugal’s construction sector totalled €13.1 billion in 2016, the lowest figure since 1986. “It’s an unacceptable setback and it has to be reversed,” said Reis Campos, president of the national association of civil construction and public work industries (AICCOPN). Diário de Notícias explains that construction investments have fallen 55.5% since 2001, when Portugal registered its highest amount of money invested in the sector (€30.2 billion).
