Investigation opens after bodies of elderly mother and daughter found in Coimbra

PJ police are working on the theory that a 67-year-old woman bludgeoned her mother to death with a stone, and then took her own life “in circumstances that have yet to be clarified”. Suffice it to say the bodies of 92-year-old Isaltina Gomes and her daughter Luísa were found in the apartment they shared in Coimbra on Saturday evening. Neighbours are in shock, saying Luísa looked after her mother – a woman with “many health problems” and had always appeared very caring.
