International show jumping

SOME OF the best riders in the world are currently taking part in the Seventh International Show Jumping Championship of Portimão, at the Centro Hipico de Belmonte.

The event continues until Sunday, September 24. Top riders from 15 countries are participating in this event and the most important competition, the Grande Prémio Cidade de Portimão, the Portimão City Prize, taking place on Sunday, will be televised on Portuguese station, RTP2, with the riders competing for 26,500 euros prize money.  Well-known names taking part include Belgian, Michel Blaton, Dutchman, Rudolfo Breu and the winner of the top prize in 2005, Brazilian, Pedro Venicios.

Portugal will be represented by its best riders, Francisco Rocha, who is from Portimão, João Chuva, Marina Frutuoso de Melo, Luís Sabino and national champion António Portela Carneiro.

The action gets underway at 10am daily and entrance is free. This event is being sponsored by Portimão Câmara.
