International School São Lourenço (ISSL), Almancil, is celebrating outstanding GCSE and A level results.
Headteacher Terry McGuire said that all 13 advanced level students achieved the grades required to get them into their chosen universities. “The students achieved 100 per cent pass A – E which is an incredible feat,” he said.
The Headteacher explained that the grades were “exceptional” because almost all of the students achieved grades greater than those predicted by previous assessments.
The GCSE results were also first class. Terry McGuire told the Algarve Resident: “To achieve greater than 82 per cent five A* to C, including English and Mathematics, places the school among the top UK schools and even higher among international schools.”
ISSL is proud of its policy of allowing pupils of all abilities to enter GCSEs. Some less able pupils still achieved excellent results. In addition, two students were entered for GCSE Mathematics and Portuguese one year earlier than usual and they achieved top grades. Terry McGuire stated that he was confident that these performances will improve even further now that the school has recruited four new GCSE and A Level teachers.
