‘METHODS AND Materials’ will be the theme of the fourth Experimental Design Fair, which takes place in Lisbon from September 15 to 30. The biannual fair will be spread over four sites – the Cultural Centre in Belém, the Cordoaria Nacional, Estufa Fria and Culturgest.
“One of the challenges of the Experimental Design Fair will be to put Lisbon, and Portugal, on the list of major international design events,” said the fair’s director, Mário Carneiro. “The event continues to be a platform for design research for the country and its image abroad.”
According to him, the event is not only important to showcase examples of cutting edge Portuguese architecture and design, but also to give international exhibitors and designers the opportunity to display their innovative creations and projects.
There will be a whirlwind of exhibitions, debates, conferences, workshops, films and project presentations over the six-week period.
This year’s event has widened its horizons, attracting participators from Sweden, Macau and Spain, while continuing to feature regular exhibitors from Italy, the UK, Holland and France.
In 2003, the project had a budget of 800,000 euros, which has risen to 1,823,000 euros this year, of which 671,000 euros has come from Lisbon Câmara, 200,000 euros from the Ministry of Culture and 480,000 euros from national and international sponsors.
