Almonds, figs, carobs and olives could once again be profitable for farmers in the Algarve according to the regional agricultural authority, Direcção Regional de Agricultura (DRAP).
Castelão Rodrigues, director of DRAP, said the traditional fruit and nut industry in the region is viable if intensively farmed, with carobs, for example, already making a comeback.
He added that DRAP are carrying out sessions to explain the investment possibilities for farmers across the region.
