Intensive care numbers in Portugal down to almost exactly as experts predicted

Numbers in intensive care units today are down to 242 patients today, almost exactly as experts predicted they would be by ‘the middle of the month’.

Baltazar Nunes told the Infarmed meeting last Monday that numbers would be at 240 by ‘the middle of the month’ – and 120 by the end.

Today’s bulletin shows just how accurate mathematical forecasts have been.

New cases today have been recorded at 541, with 3,158 recoveries in the last 24-hours.

The worst area remains Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo (+242 new cases, 6 deaths) as regions like the Algarve, Madeira and Azores continue to record no deaths at all.

Of the 814, 257 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, only 38,156 remain active as of today.

The last 24-hours recorded 15 deaths with Covid-19, bringing the total national death toll since March 2020 to 16,684.
