Insulin

PORTUGUESE DOCTORS have asked the government to subsidise the cost of infusion pumps of insulin for young diabetes type 1 sufferers.

Making the call to mark World Day of Diabetes on Wednesday, the SPEDP, a national organisation that studies paediatric diabetes, said: “Many children and youngsters still don’t have access to this treatment due to its price.”

Portugal has a total of 650,000 people with diabetes and 65,000 of them suffer from diabetes type 1. This type is fatal if a person is not properly treated with insulin.
