INSA warns Portugal’s Rt is over 1 again

INSA, Portugal’s public health institute Dr Ricardo Jorge, was not delighted by the decision to end mask-wearing in most indoor settings last week – and today it has issued the warning that cases of SARS-CoV-12 transmission are increasing, and in some areas, are over the level of ‘1’. The fact that the virus is not causing increased pressure on hospitals (or even increased deaths) is why masks have been dropped – but INSA is clearly not prepared to relax its approach, stressing that “Portugal represents an accumulated 14 day average of more than 960 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and an RT above 1: in other words, a very elevated notification rate, with a growing trend”.
