Inquiry opens into logging in Lousã mountains

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an enquiry following the tree clearing that took place in the Lousã mountain range at the end of September, prompting criticism from environmental associations and the town council. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the inquiry is investigating “facts that could be part of the crime of qualified theft”. The incident refers to trees being felled in a Natura 2000 area, which environmental associations claimed at the time, “reveals chronic problems of nature conservation” in this country.
