Information centre for foreigners

A DEDICATED information and support centre for foreigners living in the Algarve has recently opened in Faro. The Centro Local de Apoio ao Imigrante (CLAI) is located at Praça José Afonso 23 and is open Monday to Friday, from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm. There are around 20,000 foreign residents in the borough of Faro, which corresponds to 30 per cent of legal immigrants living in the region (a total of 70,000). The official opening was presided over by Feliciano Barreiras Duarte, Secretary of State for the Prime Minister’s Office, and Faro Câmara President, José Vitorino, and was attended by Faro’s Civil Governor, Valentim Rosado, and representatives from several other official entities.
