Inflammable snood controversy: all defendants face trial

Lisbon’s TCIC (central criminal court) has ruled that all defendants remaining in the ‘inflammable snood’ case should face trial, under the terms of the public prosecution’s office accusation. This was one of the many cases under António Costa’s eight years of Socialist leadership that led to resignations/ dismissals from government. Among defendants are former president of ANEPC (Civil Protection Authority) General Carlos Mourato Nunes. Recently ‘released’ from suspicion by public prosecutors was former secretary of State for Civil Protection José Artur Neves, but today’s decision sees Neves as well going to trial. His disappointed lawyer told reporters: “In the judicial world, nothing surprises me”.
