INFANT MORTALITY has decreased to its lowest ever rate in Portugal with 3.3 deaths for every 1,000 births.
“Portugal’s infant mortality rate decreased by 0.1 between 2005 and 2006, when we believed it was almost impossible to reduce it any more,” said the Health Minister Correia de Campos during a ceremony at the Alfredo da Costa maternity unit in Lisbon.
The ceremony marked the inclusion of the vaccine against cervical cancer into the national vaccination plan (see news brief above).
