INEM fails

NINE PER cent of all calls received by the emergency services INEM between January and November this year were not answered.

Abílio Gomes, President of INEM, was summoned to parliament this month to respond to queries of why around 135,000 calls were left unanswered by the emergency services.

He said that no calls were left unanswered, “what happens is that people give up the call before it is answered.”

He added that the average length of time before a call is answered is 55 seconds, with 35 per cent of all calls being answered on the first ring.
