Dear Editor,
I think maybe I am not alone as a local Algarvio in wishing that our region, as once desired by our ancestors, could be independent from the rest of Portugal.
We have some 10 million tourists coming here every year and plenty of industry like cultivation of fish and seafood and even maybe soon our own oil and, of course, our own wine!
The Algarve could maybe then become a tax free zone, maybe still linked to Portugal like the Channel Islands are to Britain.
Call me marafado if you wish but I say – Viva os Algarves!
