Today’s DGS Covid bulletin brings ‘more of the same’ of the last few days: massively high case count (40,134 new cases in the last 24-hours), 22 deaths, 1,699 people in the country’s hospitals (162 in intensive care units) and 30,041 people deemed to have ‘recovered’ in the last 24-hours. Although the case counts are ‘sky high’ in comparison to numbers registered last year, the number of people in hospitals and dying is a fraction in comparison, thanks to a combination of the effectiveness of vaccines and the fact that the current variant is a much milder version of the original strain.
