Inauguration of new bowling surface

A new bowling green surface was officially opened at Clube Praia D’Oura near Albufeira on Wednesday November 11.

The artificial surface has recently been replaced, using the latest outdoor bowling carpet, courtesy of Greenguage, based in Scotland, and a pioneer in bowling green carpet technology.

To commemorate the event, the host club invited 10 teams from across the Algarve to compete for the Greenguage Trophy.

Each team had two triples, which each played nine ends in the morning and nine in the afternoon, the aggregate scores to decide the winners overall.

In the morning session, Alvor 1, Albufeira 1 and Albufeira 2 had a good start winning both their matches, whereas Greenguage Oddbods, Alvor 2 and Amendoeira managed one win each.

Valverde had a good afternoon winning both games (but had lost both in the morning), whereas Albufeira 1 lost both afternoon games, Tavira managed to win one out of two, however PDF lost all four games during the day. That left Greenguage and Alvor 1 to contend for the title.

Greenguage won three out their four matches and eventually came second on six points,  Albufeira 2 also had six points, but were third on shot difference. The winners were Alvor 1 who were unbeaten throughout the day, winning all four of their games and getting eight points.

Connie Borrell, the retiring Chairperson of Bowls Algarve, presented the trophy to the winning team.

The runners up each received a bowls measure, all prizes presented by the sponsors Greenguage.
