It is always interesting to see how many golfers line themselves incorrectly on the golf course and are amazed that their shots do not find their intended target. The aim is a square set up, which means that the line of the shoulders, hips and toes should run parallel to the intended target line – see diagram 1.
Many pupils mistakenly put the club across their legs, so that it points towards the target and then they address the ball. This is not correct positioning, as the line of the shoulders, hips and toes is pointing at the target, meaning their actual target line ends up running parallel to the right of the intended target.
Always take time over your set up – it is the key to straighter shots.
Good luck and happy golfing! In the next article we’ll be concentrating on positioning the golf ball.
